Jose D. Sanchez

As many of you know, Joe Sanchez was also known as skinny Joe, as there were 2 Joe Sanchez's at Manzano 68-71 (as well as Grant Jr. High 65-68).  As the other one, or fat Joe smiley I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing.  Last time I saw him, the morning after our 40th reunion, I left the hotel only to drive up next to him at the traffic light.  He was in the left turn lane, and I, just to his right.  He turned, smiled and yelled, "JOE SANCHEZ, I LOVE YOU BROTHER!!"  as he turned left and away from me.crying That's just how I'll choose to remember him. Next tme you see an old class mate, treat them as though it may be the last time you'll ever see them.  Give them your love!!

Joepy Sanchez lived behind us from 1st grade to 5th grade. My mom reminded me of that name yesterday when I told her about Joe's passing.  We were neighbors, classmates and friends all through our school years. I remember Little Joe (and Big Joe 👍) at Grant and Manzano.... Joe had a lot of names I guess.  RIP Joe and Peace be with your family.

I played football with Joe, the summer after graduation we were mobile home roomates along with a handfull of other guys. Being from California I missed my friends and decided to hitch hike to LA that same summer. Joe joined me as far as Flagstaff on his way to Phoenix. That was the last time I saw him. Great memory and great fun that summer of 71. We weren't close friends but he was always nice to me. Thats a good memory as well. RIP Joe!
