October 1, 1972

 

Gregory J. Gray, 19, a resident of Albuquerque for 14 years died near El Paso as result of a skydiving accident. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Gray; brother, Michael of Miramar, CA; step-brother, Lewis Gray of Santa Fe and sisters, Cheirel Webster of Gallup and Cynthia Lee of Winslow, AZ; step sister, Gerrie of Fern Park, Fla; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A H Lee of Mesa, AZ. Gregory was a member of the Episcopal Church, De Molay and Eagle Scout Troop 383. He was awarded the Vigil Award, Order of the Arrow. He was a student at New Mexico State Univesity. He worked summers at Co-Con Construction Company and was a member of a local sky diving club - he had made 25-30 jumps.

I remember that day so well.  Told his  story many times.  I was invited to jump with him that day.  I partied the night before and had other plans for that Sat. morning.  It could have be me, not Greg that died that sunny morning.  He will be missed by all that knew him.  So sad.  He will see us again in paradise.
