Fellow Monarchs!
Manzano is asking for our help with two projects. Please read the entire announcement.
The first is a Human Library - defined as a social experiment that invites people to share stories and life experiences, times of adversity, careers, and so much more with people that are interested. Instead of checking out a book to learn about something or someone, you talk to a person and hear their story. Manzano's goal is to offer their students an opportunity to ask questions, build relationships, offer a sense of comfort that they are not alone, build their confidence, and so much more! The project will be conducted March 15 and 16, 2022. If you are interested in participating, please click on the following link: Human Book Sign Up Form (google.com)
The second project is Campus Beautification - scheduled for April 9, 2022. Here is Principal Vigil's request
February 2022
Dear Member of the Albuquerque Community,
Manzano High School has been a pillar of our community for the last 62 years, teaching and guiding generations of Albuquerque leaders. Purple pride runs deep in our community and Monarchs graduates are changing the world every single day. As we all know the last two years have been difficult for all of us, but our youth in particular have had to overcome social, emotional, and academic challenges. Despite these trials and tribulations our Manzano Community has made great strides in doing everything we can to ensure the wellbeing and academic success of our students. Due to the reality of the last two years and the fact Manzano High School is one of the oldest high schools in our community, our campus could use some love and attention.
Our students deserve a warm, beautiful, and inviting campus they are proud to call their own. To bring this dream to life we are planning a school and community wide campus clean up and beautification day. We would like to bring in over 200 students and 100 community members to restore and bring new light and life to Manzano High School. Manzano High School has one of the most diverse student populations in the Albuquerque community and our goal is for our campus to reflect that. Bringing attention to the cultural diversity and backgrounds our students bring to our campus. We want all students to feel welcome, supported, and empowered by every aspect of Manzano High School.
In order to complete this huge undertaking, we are in need of some help from our neighbors in the community. On April 9th we will clean trash, remove debris, scrub classrooms, pull weeds, plant flowers and trees, paint benches, install murals, and revitalize as many areas on our campus as we can. This event will also not be one of a kind as we plan to make this a tradition Manzano partakes in twice a year to ensure the upkeep and appearance of our campus.
If you are able, please consider donating to our cause. Attached to this letter is a list of supplies we are seeking. We also understand it can be difficult to donate specific supplies so we are also accepting monetary donations and our team will purchase the necessary supplies. Your donation will not only impact on the monarchs that are currently attending Manzano but for generations to come.
If you are able to provide a monetary donation you will be given a receipt and a formal thank you letter that you can use for either your personal tax or organizational tax purposes. To donate supplies please reach out to Seth Shapiro at seth.shapiro@aps.edu . For monetary donations please make all checks or money orders to Manzano High School. Please note in the memo line “Campus Clean Up.” We will also accept cash donations. If you have any questions regarding this project please feel free to reach out to our Community School Coordinator Jessica Dinsmore at Jessica.dinsmore@aps.edu or 505-559-2200 ext. 23437.
Thank you for your time and generosity in this matter. Sincerely, Rachel Vigil Principal
