BENAVIDEZ - Michael A. Benavidez, 24, a resident of Albuquerque for 10 years, passed away in a local hospital Wednesday. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca "Becky" Benavidez of the family home; one daughter, Kimberly Benavidez of the family home; one son, Michael Benavidez of the family home; his parents, Mrs, Marian Benavidez and Edward J. Benavidez, both of Albuquerque; one sister, Mrs. David (Roselia) Anaya, Santa Fe; and one brother, Eddie Benavidez, Santa Fe.  He was a member of the Catholic Church.  He was assistant to Mayor David Rusk; a graduate of the University of New Mexico; was awarded most distinguished student award; was chief lobbyist for associated students of UNM; was listed for two years, in Who's Who among students in American Colleges and Universities and had been accepted to attend the University of New Mexico Medical School.  Rosaries will be recited today and Friday at 7 p.m. in Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne, 1100 Coal SE. A prayer service will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Charles  Borromeo Chatholic Church.  Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers the family request contributions to the Cancer Research center % Dr. John Saiki, 900 Camino DeSalud NE.
