HAURY -- Richard K. Haury, beloved father, son, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully, Tuesday, July 27, 2010. He was a native New Mexican born to Kenneth and Lonah (Wilson) Haury on October 8, 1953. Rick was a kind and loving person, often referred to as a "gentle giant," who could always be counted on to lend a hand to those in need. His smile would light up a room and his sense of humor was contagious. As a natural athlete, Rick developed a passion for sports at a young age. He graduated from Manzano High School and the University of New Mexico where he made many great contributions to both the football and wrestling teams. He continued his love of sports by coaching football for the Albuquerque Indian School and youth soccer later on in life. Rick had a generous spirit and a genuine interest in helping others. He began his career in law enforcement with the Albuquerque Police Department and also worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the New Mexico Attorney General's Office, and the Region I Narcotics Task Force. He found his true calling as a police officer and often joked he would have worked for free. Rick was a devoted father and was happiest surrounded by all of his loving family. His passion for life and his memory will never be forgotten by those who loved him. He was preceded in death by his mother and brother, Ronald Haury. He is survived by his daughters, Amy and Courtney Haury; father, Kenneth Haury; sister, Margery Buckner and husband, Jerry; brothers, Mark Haury and George Haury and his wife, Marian; nieces, Winona and Jennifer Buckner, and Stephanie Haury; and nephew, Rick Haury, all of Albuquerque. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 3, 2010, 10:00 a.m., at Eastern Hill Baptist Church, 3100 Morris NE. A Time of Remembrance will be held Monday, August 2, 2010, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at French, Lomas Location.
