Condolences

Amy Komarek Budge December 23, 2024

I sincerely send my condolences for your loss. I knew Erich when we both attended Roosevelt Jr and Manzano High School. I remember Erich as a happy guy and always had a smile. The last time we saw each other was at our "Mountain Kids" gathering in 2021 during our 50th Manzano HS reunion. Rest in peace Erich.

Erich was my oldest friend. We met in 5th grade when I moved into the East Mountains. He and I spent most of our free time together, riding dirt bikes, listening to records, going on double dates. In later years we corresponded by email, sharing jokes, videos, and life events. My heart aches today. Good bye, my friend!

I can still hear Erich playing his 5 minute drum solo for " In A Godda Da Vida" while the rest of the band took their pre-break on one of our song sets at the Officer's club at Kirkland Air Force Base. I enjoyed the harmonious vocals Erich sang with Scotty. They did such a great Beatles song set together!  Remembering we played Proud Mary at the beginning of every song set to magically get everyone back on the dance floor. Erich always hit the high notes! (Hope he didn't damage his vocal chords) I'm sure this will bring back some good memories from the rest of our band, Larry B., Scott C., Paul J., and myself, Mike M.  A blast from the past, the party years, my Manzano H.S. years 1969-1971.  Sharing fond memories and respect to a fellow musician, a lover of music, a person that loved his companion dogs, Keep a spot open for me when we meet again  in Karaoke Heaven, my friend.  My condolences to Erich's family and a celebration of life to all who were enriched by Erich's presence.

I knew Erich even before 1st grade because my mom knew his mom. We started first grade together at A.Montoya. Like others have commented, Erich was quite the drummer! I was in the band with Erich and was fascinated with his exuberant drumming. Our paths crossed over the years and we renewed our friendship at the East Mpuntain Picnic. We became Facebook friends and hardly a week went by that my hubby (Phil Clayton) and I weren't laughing at Erich's posts that are obviously a sign of his sense of humor. Sending my condolences and prayers to his family. My heart goes out to you at this time.I will always remember Erich with respect and a smile.
