In Memory

James Rospopo

James Rospopo

James Rospopo, born March 15, 1953, died May, 2022 in Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his father Peter, in 2003 and his mother, Mary, in 2014. James is survived by his brother Steven and his wife Donna, his nephew Michael Rospopo, and his niece Katarina Rospopo Wilken.

James was a kind and gentle spirit taken from this earth after a short illness. James was born on the ides of March in 1953, the second son of Peter and Mary Rospopo. James was a life-long resident of New Mexico who attended Manzano High School graduating in 1971. His life journey included service in the United States Navy and post-secondary education at Central New Mexico College and the University of New Mexico.

He was renowned for elegant western-style dress attire featuring cowboy hats, beaded and tailored shirts, and boots. His friends recall that James always had the biggest smile you ever saw. His life-long work career focused on multimedia artistic works, custom beading projects, custom clothing manufacture, and textile dying projects. He operated an antique and estate clearance business. He had many friends and acquaintances, touched their lives, and was generous to every purpose. His personal journals suggest that he took great solace in the life of Saint John of God. “Abide in peace, banish cares, take no account of all that happens, and you will serve God according to his good pleasure and rest in him.” In accordance with his wishes, James was cremated and will be interred near his parents in Los Alamos, New Mexico. Dan Brown wrote, “So long as they speak your name, you shall never die.” A celebration of James’ life will be conducted in the future, to allow his family, friends, and acquaintances to tell the stories and memories of his life, which will become the foundation of his legacy on the earth.

He was indeed kind, and had a great sense of humor as well.
I am glad to know from the comments about his journal, he was well grounded and content.
I'm sure he touched many lives with kindness and joy in these years since high school.

James and I had many great conversations and so much fun during several classes.  I saw him a couple years ago and we picked up right where we left off like there was no time between our visits.  He will be missed.  God speed James❤️

Jim and I were close friends at school for over 5 years. We had a lot of fun growing up, taking long hikes in the Sandia foothills. He was a good man and will be sorely missed. Rest well, Jim.

I was fortunate to reconnect with Jim many years ago.  We enjoyed getting together for dinner and discussing the world's issues. Jim also joined me at my cabin several times, where we enjoyed the fresh air, good food, and an exciting ATV ride.

Since we had different viewpoints on the Covid-19 vaccine, we hadn't gotten together for several years. We did, however, correspond through email and phone calls.  He didn't relay to me that he was ill, so his passing was a huge shock.  I understand he passed away from kidney failure.

Jim was a very kind, lots of fun, and generous man.  I will certainly miss him.

Jim and I became friends our Junior year. He accepted me for who I was and that was extremely precious to me. I remember over the summer he made me 2 things, a small leather purse and coin pouch, which I still have. I remember when we would go to the dances in the gym he would stand by the speakers, he liked his music loud. On my birthday many years ago my ex-husband took me to Midnight Rodeo, friends joined us there and he came from Taos to spend my birthday with me. That was the best birthday ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I loved my friend and he will be truly missed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
